Day 6: MASAI MARA NATIONAL PARK (OLOOLOLO AREA) - LAKE VICTORIA

Thursday, November 4, 2010

Today is a long day in our trip to Kenya and Tanzania, in which we have to cross the border between Kenya and Tanzania to get to Lake Victoria in Tanzania.
In the first place, the guide warns us that if there is rain or if there has been in the area where we have to pass, we can have problems, that means we can get stuck with the truck and have to push or have a breakdown.
Today we do not see many animals but we do go through many villages of Kenya, we change landscapes, these being just as special or more than the animals we have seen so far.

I can't stop looking out the window and be amazed every time we pass through a town or meet people.

Road crossing the border between Kenya and Tanzania

The children chase us running and greeting us. Sometimes they ask us for things, but others just run or greet us as they pass.

We see mud and straw houses on the roof and people in their day to day.
Today we begin to see the social reality of this area of Africa or at least a little.

Road crossing the border between Kenya and Tanzania

The road is quite bad and the speed is slow, on several occasions the guide warns us that we could arrive at the camp at dawn if there is a problem.

At the moment everything is going well and before lunch and after 6 hours of travel we arrive at the strong> border between Kenya and Tanzania.,
There begins to fall a downpour and just let us down to the bathroom. No photos and no smoking, it is the first thing that warns us.
The guide makes some arrangements with our passports and so we will only have to do the entry management in Tanzania.
We stand in line and increasingly astonished we look at the border crossing: a little house, nothing more.
After entry management in Tanzania and a little more time, waiting for it to stop raining, we stopped to eat at the foot of the road, next to a small lake.
There we set up our food kit: tables, chairs, cutlery, glasses plates ... and people start to come and see what we do.
The truth is that thinking cold is normal: what do 19 targets and a guide in a truck? And why have they stopped in the middle of the road with tables and chairs? It seems surreal, but at that time it was normal for us and we enjoyed it more than if we were in the best restaurant in the city.
After lunch, today without coffee, why you can not make fire on the side of the road we go to Lake Victoria, one of the most marked visits in this safari in africa.
We take a little while to throw a small nod and before we know it, we make another stop to buy firewood.
It rains again with jugs and the children approach the dripping truck, the guide allows us to give them a few candies and bundles a good one… children and adults begin to fight for the candies !!
We decided that this is the last time we will do that.
After a few more hours on the way, around 5 we arrive at our Lodge, at the foot of the Lake Victoria in Tanzania With incredible views of the lake.

Lake Victoria in Tanzania

Here we have stores already assembled, but with a common bathroom and shower.
The guide offers us the possibility of sleeping in bungalows overlooking the lake, own bathroom, electricity for 35 euros and we do not hesitate to raise your hand to ask for one of the 5 you have left.

Before they take us to see them, but the truth is that it would not have been necessary, they are spectacular. Own shower, a large bed and terrace overlooking the lake. The truth is that we can not complain about tents, since we even have removable beds! But after these days, although the store that touches us today is already assembled, the possibility of showering quietly for that price can not be lost.

After taking a good shower we will have dinner to gain strength to continue in this safari in africa.
We have the truck near the "enclosure" and we are going to set up "the dining room" for dinner.
Today we have pizza and a variety of vegetables, rice, salads ... and like every night a variety of soup.
After dinner we try to have a drink at the bar before going to sleep, but the amount of mosquitoes prevents us, so we decided that it is best to go to enjoy our bungalow in Tanzania.
Tomorrow morning we have breakfast included in the Tented Camp restaurant, overlooking Lake Victoria.
