Day 1: LLORET DE MAR - ARLES (LA PROVENZA)

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Today is the day we started our 5-day getaway by Provence and The French Riviera in France. In the first stage of the trip we will visit some of the beautiful villages of Provence such as Arles, Avignon, Les Baux en Provence and Aux en Provence.
We leave home at 5:30 in the afternoon, our workday is over and although the car trip is a bit long we make it more bearable thinking about the amount of things we will see in this trip through the south of France.

Recommended travel cards

Remember that in order not to pay commissions and always have the current change we recommend you use the N26 card to pay and the Bnext and Revolut cards to get money at the ATMs. They are the ones we use, They are free and will save you a lot.
You can find more information in this article about the best cards to travel without commissions.

We arrived at Arles around 9 p.m., making a couple of stops a few minutes on the way to rest.
To get to town of Arles We have seen enough animation since we have coincided with the festivities that are celebrated at the beginning of the rice harvest and that for what we have read last up to 10 days.

We leave our bags at the hotel, the Best Western Atrium, quite good, without much luxury, but with everything necessary and we go to dinner that at this time we need to recharge our energy.
We opted for a restaurant in the Boulevar de Lices, which is the most central of Arles and that catches us very close to the hotel.
We don't try anything from local cuisine and we go directly to two pasta dishes. Tonight we want to lay down fast and we are not for culinary "experiments."
Tomorrow we will discover Arles who together with the landscapes of Provence were a source of inspiration for Van Gogh and other painters. There he painted great works, among which are some of the best known, such as "Los Girasoles", "Café la Nuit", "La Silla de Van Gogh" or "La Casa Amarilla".

We will also visit its famous Roman amphitheater, Las Arenas, built shortly after the Colosseum in Rome from which it takes the main features.
