Day 1: Lloret de Mar - Barcelona Airport - Turin - How to get from the airport to Turin

Know that today's alarm clock sounds like “travel"It is the best way to get out of bed and more if we know that in a few hours our trip to Turin will begin in 3 days, which will take us to one of the cities that we most wanted to know from Italy and where nothing else to arrive, we will touch go from the airport to Turin with public transport.
Our flight leaves mid-morning from Barcelona, a schedule that will allow us to arrive at Turin at noon and thus be able to take advantage of the whole afternoon to know this city that has been resisting for several years.

After packing our bags and going to breakfast at our main cafeteria, we set off to Barcelona, where we arrive in almost two hours, since working days at rush hour, cross Barcelona, either by rounds or by the center, becomes a real torture. As soon as we arrive at the airport, when it is almost 10 in the morning, we leave the car in the Aena car park and then go straight to T2, from where our flight to Turin will depart.

Arriving at T2 at Prat Airport

We arrive with the right time to pass the controls and go to the boarding gate that will be ours the beginning of the last getaway of 2016 before embarking on what will be the last great trip of the year, which will lead us to fulfill one of the many traveling dreams that we have, besides being the last trip we will make in the situation that we currently have and with which we will begin a new life full of new trips.

Boarding the flight to Turin

Punctual announce our flight, so we have only to queue and get on the plane, book in hand, with which we will spend the next hour and little. This time we are accompanied by Verbal People, from our friend Fabi, which we recommend you read, since it is a book that does not leave you indifferent, removes consciences and at times causes, something that (unfortunately) we are no longer accustomed, in addition to capturing in a very beautiful way, feelings that we have inside and that many times we do not know or are unable to convey with words. In this case she has done it perfectly through some pronouns that meet in these pages.

Verbal people Fabienne Tremblé

We landed in Turin at 1 noon, shortly before the scheduled time surrounded by a somewhat thick fog that makes us have a first impression of a more "white" and "blurry" Turin than we expected, although not for that reason we makes you feel less like starting to discover this city that many know as the "great forgotten from Italy".
As soon as you arrive at the departures terminal, you have to look for the bus that will allow us to go from the airport to Turin, to the Porta Nuova that is next to our hotel in Turin, the Grand Hotel Sitea.

How to get from the airport to Turin

- Bus: This is the option we have chosen to go from the airport to Turin. The company is called SADEM and is a bus that, in about 45 minutes, leaves you at Torino Porta Susa or Torino Porta Nuova, the train station, for a price of 6.50 euros per person and route.
You can buy the tickets directly at the vending machine at the exit of the Terminal and where you can pay by cash or credit card. If you don't find it, you can always pay directly on the bus, although with an increase of one euro per ticket.
The bus leaves approximately every fifteen minutes to both directions, although on weekends and holidays it is every half hour.

The SADEM bus stop is leaving the terminal, just in front, crossing the road. On the bus there is a small area to leave small bags, but it is best to leave them at the bottom, to avoid having to go with them in the seat if there is no room left.

How to get from the airport to Turin

- Taxi: Although our idea does not happen to take a taxi we see that the prices are quite tight: 8.50 euros per person if 4 people go and 17 euros per person if two people go.
- Private transport / transfer: The most comfortable option, especially if you arrive outside hours normal or you want to get to your accommodation or the airport as soon as possible. You can book your transfer to / from here to go from the airport to Turin.

With everything ready we left with the bus to go from the airport to Turin, to Porta Nuova when it is 13:40 noon, arriving at our destination when it is two in the afternoon, with the firm intention of eating before going to the Grand Hotel Sitea and thus start our trip to Turin in the best way and charged with energy.
On the way to the hotel we find I Tartufi, a restaurant recommended on TripAdvisor where we ordered a first plate of peppers with cod, plus a rissotto with truffle, a pasta dish plus water and tiramisu and two express for 41 euros, a price more than adjusted for everything we've eaten and how good it was.

Eating at I Tartufi in Turin

With my stomach I have already approached the Grand Hotel Sitea, where we have been invited to spend these days, and where we check in a few minutes, allowing us to go up to the room, where after resting for a while and leaving our bags we go back to the streets of Turin to enjoy this beautiful city.
The truth is that for this afternoon we do not have an itinerary too defined in the city, since we want it to be a first contact, especially to enjoy the city at nightfall, which is the moment we have read, looks especially spectacular.

The first thing we do is approach to Via Roma, one of the main arteries of Turin, which is two minutes walk from our hotel and is one of the commercial streets of the city, which we have aimed to visit both day and night and that already at this time of the afternoon looks especially spectacular.

From here we approach directly to Piazza San Carlo, a beautiful square of Turin, all surrounded by arcades, like many of the streets and squares of the city, with stunning views of two churches, the Chiesa di San Carlo Borromeo and La Chiesa S. Cristina, who remind us a lot, saving the distances, to the twin churches of Piazza del Popolo, which we saw for the second time on our trip to Rome on a weekend.

After a walk through this area of Turin we approach the San Filippo Neri Church, one of the best known churches in the city, where we enter to discover an interior that really surprises us, and we recommend you not to be missed.

From here we approach the Egyptian Museum, which we will visit tomorrow, since as we mentioned earlier, the hours that we will spend today in the city we have considered as a first contact with Turin for the next two days to devote ourselves to make the visits more conscientiously of all the places we are going through this afternoon.

Details of Turin arcades

After walking for a while in this area of the city we approached the Piazza Carignano, another of the most emblematic corners of the city, and the Piazza Carlo Alberto, also passing through the Carignano Theater.

Carignano Palace

Being in this area of the city we can not stop approaching the Subalpine Gallery, a gallery that is located a few steps from the Piazza Carignano, which shows us one of the most elegant faces of the city. And is that if there is something that has called us, and much, the attention is the beauty and elegance of the city, which is shown at every step we take and in every new corner that we are discovering.

Subalpine Gallery

We spent some time in this gallery, stopping at the lovely shops there, looking at all the details and trying to retain the restaurants that we are finding, to keep them in mind to return to eat or dine any of the days we have left of this trip to Turin. When it has begun to get dark we go to the Madama Palace, walking through some streets full of charm, which make us fall in love with Turin, only after having spent a couple of hours in the city.

Walking, practically aimlessly, just with the idea of walking, we suddenly find Piazza Castelo, one of the most visited squares in the city, where besides the Madama Palace we find the Royal Palace and the Turin Cathedral, three of the symbols of Turin that we will visit in the next few days and that at this time of the evening look particularly charming. And we have to say that, although we have only been here for a few hours, we can say that Turin is a very beautiful city by day, but especially charming at night, one of those cities that must be traveled once the sun and the sun have hidden Lights have appeared to dress her with her best finery.

Palazzo Madama

From here we approach the Palatine Gate, which at this time of the afternoon, when it is almost six in the afternoon, like the rest of the city, looks spectacularly illuminated.

Palatine Porta

After this tour of the most central area of Turin we approach, crossing the Via Po to the Vittorio Emanuele I Bridge, another of the most famous enclaves of the city that we are looking forward to meet at night, since when it is fully illuminated, the Chiesa Dio's Great Mother is reflected in the Po River, leaving us with a very difficult image to forget.

Vittorio Emanuele I Bridge

If there is something that is attracting us a lot of attention and has really impressed us about Turin, it is the amount of streets with arcades that preserve the charm of yesteryear, surrounded by beautiful shops, careful to detail, that keep that charm and elegance , typical of this beautiful Italian city.
It's almost 7 in the afternoon when we see that many of the bars and cafes start announcing the traditional Italian aperitivi, where for about 10 euros, according to the local, you can have a drink and make a snack of the most complete, something that counting the time we have eaten, we think it will be the best option for dinner on this first day of the trip to Turin .
Another of the things that have caught our attention in Turin is that the city looks especially beautiful being wrapped in a fairly dense fog, something that probably in another city would have been a problem, both when visiting it and when of photographing it and in this case, it is quite the opposite, it gives the city a charming air, much more if we are lucky to complement it with the Christmas lights that we have been lucky to find on these dates.

Via Po

Tour of Turin at night

Without a doubt, come at the time you come, we recommend you do not miss a route through Turin at night. After doing this tour of most tourist spots in the city and reaching the Po River, we have to say that we believe it is one of the things to do in Turin that you cannot miss.

During a slightly more summer time we could have done some circuit along the Po River by cruise, something that remains pending for the next time we visit the city.
After this route through Turin at night, we decided that with what it was time to make a stop and make a take that aperitivi that we missed our trips to Italy so much, in one of the restaurants we have seen on the way to the Po River. In the end we decided on Pasticceria Abrate where we took a tasting of snacks, with a selection of small dishes, and a fruit juice for 21 euros, a price more than correct if we take into account the amount of food they have put us and that You are filling the dishes as it empties.

Aperitivi at Pasticceria Abrate

Totally recommended if you are in the area since it is all great and is one of the best ways to put into practice this tradition as Italian and more surrounded by an environment like the one in this incredible area of Turin.

Night falls in Turin

As we mentioned in the preparations for this trip to Turin, this getaway has been proposed as a relax trip prior to what awaits us in a month, which will be the trip to Chile and Easter Island and we have decided to come two and a half days to be able to take the visits with tranquility, to visit the most attractive places of the city, but also, at the same time, to walk and enjoy a few days of relaxation in Italy, that country that has us in love and to which we return whenever we can.
It's a little after 9 pm when we return to the streets of Turin, now touring the charming Via Roma to reach the Grand Hotel Sitea ready to rest and gain strength to continue tomorrow with our trip to Turin in three days.
